Acceptable Use Policy
Effective: October 9, 2026
This policy is part of the Nightpress Terms of Service. By generating or sharing books on Nightpress, you agree to it.
1. The Short Version
Nightpress generates full-length fiction. Fiction gets to go dark. Your books can contain crime, war, violence, tragedy, morally gray characters, and villains who feel real. What your books cannot do:
- Involve minors in anything sexual or romantic. Ever. In any framing.
- Contain sexually explicit material. Sensual and closed-door romance is fine. On-page explicit sex is not.
- Sexualize, defame, or target real, identifiable people.
- Teach real-world harm under a fictional wrapper.
- Exist to promote hatred or extremist ideology, rather than depict it.
Our generation pipeline runs on third-party AI providers whose usage policies bind everyone who submits inputs through Nightpress, including you. When you break these rules, you put every author on the platform at risk, and we enforce accordingly.
2. Zero-Tolerance Prohibitions
Violations in this section result in immediate, permanent account termination with no warning and no appeal. We preserve the relevant records and report to law enforcement where required by law.
2.1 Sexual content involving minors
Any content that sexualizes anyone under 18, in any medium, in any fictional framing, including characters who are "aged up," "actually a 500-year-old being," or otherwise disguised. Any premise that pairs romantic or sexual framing with a character whose age is ambiguous will be blocked, and repeated attempts will be treated as violations of this section.
2.2 Targeting real people
Content that sexualizes a real, identifiable person; that constitutes a credible threat against a real person; or that is created to harass, stalk, or expose the private information of a real person. "Fictionalized" versions with a changed name but obvious identity count.
3. Prohibited Content
Violations in this section go through our strike system (see Section 6).
3.1 Sexually explicit material
On-page depiction of sex acts, erotica, and fetish content are prohibited. This is a hard limit of our AI providers, and there is no setting on Nightpress that changes it.
What IS allowed: desire, tension, physical attraction, kissing, scenes that move to the bedroom and close the door, waking up after, and emotionally intense romance at any level of longing. Think mainstream trad-published romance, not open-door erotica.
3.2 Instructional harm
Fiction may depict characters doing dangerous things. It may not function as a manual. A thriller can say a character synthesized a nerve agent; it cannot include the synthesis route. A techno-thriller can feature a devastating cyberattack; it cannot include working exploit code. The test: could a reader extract real, actionable instructions for weapons, explosives, malware, or other serious harm? If yes, it is prohibited regardless of the fictional wrapper.
3.3 Hate and extremist promotion
Fiction may depict hateful characters, extremist movements, and atrocity, with authorial perspective. Books whose purpose is to promote, recruit for, or glorify hateful ideologies or extremist organizations are prohibited. The test is the book's function, not its subject matter.
3.4 Promotion of self-destructive behavior
Fiction may portray addiction, self-harm, and suicide as human experiences. Content designed to instruct, encourage, or glamorize these behaviors is prohibited.
4. What Dark Fiction Can Do
We built Nightpress for real fiction, and we will not flatten it. To be explicit about what is welcome here: crime novels with murders on the page, war novels with combat, horror with dread and consequence, dystopias with oppressive regimes, thrillers with terrorists who have coherent motives, abusers portrayed as abusers, and tragedy without a redemption arc. The line throughout this policy is depiction versus instruction, fictional persons versus real ones, adults versus minors, and portrayal versus promotion.
6. Enforcement
We screen premises before generation and spot-check generated books. Flagged content is reviewed under a tiered system:
- Guidance: Borderline requests (for example, a romance premise that asks for explicit content) are redirected before generation, with no penalty.
- Strikes: Confirmed violations of Section 3 accrue strikes: warning, then temporary generation lock, then suspension, then permanent termination. Serious first offenses can skip steps.
- Immediate termination: Any violation of Section 2.
- Probing: Repeatedly rewording blocked requests to slip them past screening is itself a violation, independent of whether any attempt succeeds.
We may suspend first and review second when platform integrity is at risk. Because our AI providers enforce at the platform level, we would rather lose one account than lose the service for everyone.
7. Appeals
If your account is actioned under Section 3, you may appeal once, within 14 days, at appeals@nightpress.ai. A human reviews every appeal. Section 2 terminations are not appealable.
8. Changes and Contact
We may update this policy as our providers' policies and the law evolve. Material changes will be announced in-product. Questions: conduct@nightpress.ai.
